"Garry- I received the well put together book that you wrote today in the mail. I haven't read the entire thing yet, but so far it's one of the most knowledgeable books about trapping I have read yet. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication put in to writing this, and making it available for purchase. I cannot wait until next season to try and put some of the knowledge i gained from reading your book to use. Thanks again-"

"I bought one and I think I should have bought three. I was about half way through it when my two sons took it from me. The half I got to read was very well written and in a format that is easy for even a youngster to understand. Great job Garry and thank you!"  T. C. - NY

"I wanted to post a review of Garry's muskrat book that I ordered a few weeks ago. I am new to trapping and this season will be my first and I can’t hardly wait. I have been searching for books that contain good information for someone just getting started in the sport. Garry's book is just what the doctor ordered! The book is extremely well written and covers every possible aspect of trapping muskrats. I highly recommend this book to someone who is getting started in trapping and I'm sure some of you old time rat trappers will also see the value in this book even if you've targeted them your entire life.

Garry - Thank you for a wonderful book and a tool that I am sure will help me find success this fall. The trapping community is very lucky to have a member like you, who takes the time to help someone get started in this sport that is close to so many of your hearts. Thanks Garry!"

"As a long retired wildlife research biologist and lifelong muskrat trapper, having trapped them in extensive cattail marshes and ditches since the late 1940's, Mr. McLaughlin's book would be a most welcomed treasure to any beginning aquatic trapper's library - young or old.

This book is a comprehensive overview of basic muskrat history, biology and trapping methods. It is well written in plain, understandable language, and is professionally organized. The spiral binding on this 126 page treatise is a bonus for easy reading for a book of it's size. I am not aware of a book on the subject of this caliber for a beginner.

I would highly recommend this introductory book to any aspiring muskrat trapper."  J. J. W. - NY

"I am retired after having taught Biology for 34 years in a public School in Pennsylvania. I received my copy of your book this morning and I must say it is the best guide to trapping muskrats that I have ever read! It covers everything from "A to Z". The explanations are excellent and the pics and diagrams really help with the visualization. It was easy to tell that you love what you do and were eager to share it with others...especially the youth. But I would recommend this book to anyone that was serious about trapping!" C. M. - Pennsylvania

“I took the time to read your book front to back twice now and I have to say that I really enjoyed the read. I took your advice and started with page one and read all the way through and can see why you told me to read it that way. You have it set up so that anyone can follow along with what you're saying and make reference to definitions (that have already been stated in previous chapters) as you move forward. You also included tips such as walking up a stream instead of down and included most of the warnings that most kids or guys that are just getting into trapping would not think about. I have not seen tips or warnings like these in the other books I have read.

I found your pictures and the superimposing of traps to be very helpful as well. Sometimes it's hard to see exactly how a trap should be set when they are underwater or the pictures are in B&W. The contrast you gave the traps (white in color) was great. It was also great to see your illustrations and pictures of the huts or houses, pushups, bank dens, vegetation, and more. These really give a person something to visualize when they see these out in the field and gives them a better understanding of the animal they are trying to trap and in turn, will up their catch.

I found your book to be one of the best trapping books I have had the pleasure to read thus far. I am by no means a veteran to this trade and feel that the info you included in your book will help me as well as others understand the habitat, habits, traps of the trade, and trapping techniques that are needed to trap this animal effectively, efficiently, and as humanely as possible. I would recommend your book to anyone that is interested in trapping muskrats with an emphasis on those that are just starting out. This was a very informative read and I thank you for taking the time to put it together.”  R. S. - Iowa

“I ordered mine Thursday and I got it this morning (two days). Super fast service. It came autographed. It is 128 pages with many photos and illustrations. From what I have browsed so far it is well written, easily understandable and I've already got an idea or 2 that I hadn't previously considered. I like the loose leaf binding that lays flat while you are reading it. I would highly recommend it. It is a tremendous value.”  Corky - Wisconsin

About the Author

Garry L. McLaughlin

A man with a passion for learning, the author has been trapping and learning about muskrats for over 60 years. His desire to teach the young and uninformed how to pursue, find, and trap muskrats and how to properly handle the fur after they are caught has inspired the writing of this book.

The author believes that trapping muskrats should be the first animal a young person should pursue. They are the easiest to learn to catch and learn to handle the pelts. They also give a young person the opportunity to learn, not only about nature, but something about themselves.
