Hi Catherine,
We just spent the weekend researching in Noble County, and I
found a few
things concerning the Keiths / Wagners.
First off, I went through your Keith Books at the library in
Caldwell, and
I
was very impressed with your thoroughness. It was extremely
helpful and I
only wish everyone could dedicate that much effort when
researching.
You may or may not already have the following info, but if not,
I hope
this
can clear up a few unanswered questions. I know it has for me,
as I am
researching the Keith / Wagners. By the way, we also went to
the Keith
Cemetery, and without your map, we would never have found it.
1) We found a will abstract of Benjamin Keith listing one of
his heirs as
"the heirs of Catherine Wagner ( deceased daughter ) " Kinda
proves Peter
Wagner's marriage to Catherine Keith. I am upset that I didn't
have time
to
find the will at the courthouse, but I'll get it someday.
2) William McBride married Polly "Mary" Keith on Dec. 21, 1837
and they
had 5
children including one named Sarah. Polly died in 1852 as
stated in your
book, and lo and behold old William McBride married Sarah
Wagner on June
24,
1854 per Noble County Marriages. Sarah was the daughter of
Peter Wagner
and
Catherine Keith, so William robbed the cradle and married his
NEICE who
was
1/2 his age. Sarah (Wagner) was born in 1837, and shows up in
your 1860
Delaware Co., Iowa Census at age 23 with William and the 1850
Jackson Twp.
Morgan Co. OH Census at age 13 living with Peter Wagner. In
1860, Willaim
and
Sarah are living with William and Polly's children except for
his daughter
Sarah who would have been 17 and was probably married by then.
The 2
younger
children in 1860 (Loretta and William) were surely Sarah Wagner
McBride's
children.
In the 1870 Delaware Co. Iowa Census there are 2 more children
shown born
to
William and Sarah (Loderska age 9 and Jessie age 6) . It is
apparent that
Sarah died because she is not there in 1870. You had Lorettas
name placed
in
( ) next to Loderska but the ages don't match. So, I did a
little
internet
digging and found a Loretta and Mary Ann McBride living in
Union Twp.,
Delaware Co. in 1870 per the Census. Perhaps Loretta went to
live with her
sister after her mother died.
I know this is a lot to digest, but I think it kinda puts some
pieces of
the
puzzle into place.
Thank you again for all your Keith Work!!!!
