If you feel the need to go to a public shelter, call your local Emergency Management for information. Specific shelter location will be announced according to the severity of the storm and local needs. DO NOT CALL 911 for shelter or storm information.  
ONLY CALL 911 IF YOU HAVE A GENUINE EMERGENCY.

Also stay tuned to your local radio and Television stations. Radio Stations local to the Palatka and Putnam County area are: WPLK 800 AM, WIYD 1260 AM, WFKS 99.9 FM and WHIF 91.3 FM

WEST PUTNAM

bulletOchwilla Elementary School, North on Hwy. 21 - off Hwy. 20 West of Interlachen.

SOUTH PUTNAM
bulletCrescent City Junior-Senior High School (for residents with special medical needs) - U.S. 17 North of Crescent City.
bulletCrescent City Elementary School - 1020 Huntington Road.

EAST PALATKA - SAN MATEO
bulletBrowning-Pearce Elementary School - San Mateo, off U.S. 17 in San Mateo.

NOTE:
All shelters may not be open during each storm. Opening of shelters depends on needs and severity of the emergency. Check with local news media or the Department of Public Safety for openings, 329-0380.

SOME ITEMS TO TAKE TO A SHELTER

• Medicine
• Enough blankets or sleeping bags for bedding for the whole family

• Flashlights and batteries.
• Enough food for your family for at least two meals. Alcoholic drinks are not allowed.
• Ice and ice chest for items that need refrigeration.

• Baby formula, diapers, etc. games for children
• Trained personnel will be stationed in each shelter to maintain order and give assistance.

PETS CANNOT BE TAKEN TO SHELTERS.

What to do with your pets
Pet owners need to make arrangements now for the care of dogs and / or cats should a hurricane threaten Putnam County. Pets are not allowed in hurricane shelters.
Contact your local Humane Society in advance.  While there are no local public shelters for pets, most area veterinarians will offer boarding during a hurricane.
